Will filing a claim raise my insurance rates?

By Insuregear · 4 min read · Updated June 18, 2026

It depends on the claim type and fault. At-fault auto claims and multiple home claims commonly raise rates; not-at-fault and certain comprehensive claims often have less impact.

A quick rule

If the damage is barely above your deductible, paying out of pocket may be cheaper than the long-term premium increase. For large losses, file — that's what insurance is for.
